Primary and Secondary Colours

This exercise was to get us to work on finding a scene which is dominated by a single colour, be it a primary or secondary colour. Once we find a scene we are then to do a couple of images changing the exposure each time so we have a collection of 3 images per colour from the colour circle.

So after spending a bit of time, more than I should have I feel. I also tried to stay away from flowers but there are times when it is the only thing you can find for those colours, so here is what I managed to come up with for these colour images.

This is set to 1/10 speed ISO 100 and F 4.

Then we have are metered reading image.

With this our metered reading I feel that this is the colour that is the best one for colour matching the red from the colour circle, this image is F4.5 speed 1/10 and ISO 100.

The settings for this image are F5 1/10 and ISO 100 out of the 3 red images I like the third image as there is a real nice deepness to the colour. But out of the 3 that are here I do feel that image 2 is the closest red for the colour circle.

Now we have the blue range.

This blue is quite a light blue, with the camera settings at F8 1/400 speed ISO 100.

This is the metered reading image I took with the settings set to ISO 100 speed 1/400 and F9. I feel that this blue is still to light for that of the blue in the colour circle.

This is the last image for the blues and as you can see I do feel that this is the better image for the blue as it is the darkest one of the three but not to dark or to light. The settings for this image are as follows F10 speed 1/400 and ISO 100. I would also say that this blue I the one closest to the blue in the colour circle.

The next colour I have chosen is Yellow and the subject I have gone for on this is a late dwarf sunflower that I came across.

With this image the metered reading came back as F10 speed 1/160 with the ISO at 200 so I set the image above to F9 1/160 at 200 and we have quite a nice natural yellow. Next I have the metered image.

So this is the metered image which as we know was set to F10 1/160 at 200 and again with this image I feel that this is a perfect yellow from the colour circle.

This was set to F11 1/160 at an ISO 200 and as we can see a darker colour but I feel that it is too dark for the colour circle but still a nice deep shade of yellow.

Next I have done green.

With shot of green I decided to try to cover a few of the different greens that there are. This shot I took was set at F5.6 speed 1/60 and ISO at 100 I do like the combinations of the green colours and I feel that it is the 3rd leaf in the stack that is closest to the colour circle.

With this image I feel that it is the grass that matches the colour circle better and this is the metered reading of F6.3 at the speed of 1/60 and the ISO at 100.

With this image I do feel that the grass is still the closest colour green to that of the colour circle and the settings for the camera were F7.1 at 1/60 ISO 100.

Now on to orange and this colour was I found quite hard but once I found a couple I was happy the first colour orange I was going to use was a cat.

But after taking this metered reading of F5 at 1/5 ISO 100, the cat would not play ball I tried on several occasions and as soon as the camera came out that was it, would not sit or lay still or would simply just run off so hence I had to find something else that was orange, so we ended up finding a small flower that was quite yellow but the centre of the flower the unopened petals were a lovely orange colour.

I did crop this image so as to draw the attention to the centre of the flower which in this image is a bit of a lighter orange at the centre but is quite close to that of the orange from the colour circle. The settings are F7.1 at a speed of 1/125 with ISO at 100.

This is the metered reading for the orange images which is F8 at a speed of 1/125 and an ISO of 100, it is this image which is on par with that of the orange from the colour circle.

In this image I feel that the whole image is a little to dark but the orange is staying close to that of the colour circle. The settings in this image are F9 speed 1/125 and ISO 100.

Now for one of the hardest colours to find, well I found it a little difficult find and that is Violet.

So after extensive searching to find a violet colour I came to no prevail until as you can see tidying up after the kids showed me that Lego Duplo comes in a nice shade of violet which I found to be very close to that of the violet in the colour circle. This was taken with the camera set to F 5.6 at a speed of 1/6 at 100 ISO.

This is the metered reading for the violet colour F6.3 with the speed at 1/6 and ISO 100 and I do feel that this colour of violet matches the colour circle very well.

This violet is set to F7.1 and speed is still set at 1/6 and ISO is still 100, it is with this image that I do feel the violet is a little bit darker than that of the violet in the colour circle.

Out of all of these colours I found that all of them are around us all the time it is just that we are all so used to seeing these things that we just take all the colours around us for granted and over look them. I feel that by doing this exercise it helps to bring it to our attention that the colours are there we just have to look at what we would normally overlook from every day life.
